Types of Interior Doors for Your Northern Virginia Basement Remodel
Interior doors are an important part of a home, as they provide structure, privacy, and function, as well as add to the décor of a room. Therefore, interior door types and styles should be chosen carefully to define the look and feel of a space when you are remodeling your basement.
An interior door is any door that does not provide access to the outside of a structure, and include closet doors, bathroom doors, bedroom doors, basement doors, and other interior room doors. There are several types of interior doors that serve their intended purpose and add to the desired décor:
- Pocket doors slide away from the opening and into a wall. Pocket doors save precious floor space in a remodeled basement and allow an opening to be fully accessible while not requiring any space.
- Standard doors are one-piece doors that fit an opening and are mounted on hinges to one side of the opening. Standard doors swing out or into a room, depending on installation.
- Bi-fold doors consist of two doors hinged together that fold into one another, mounted on a track. Bi-fold doors require less space than standard doors when opened.
- Luan doors, commonly used for closets, are on a track and slide behind each other.
Interior doors for a basement remodel can be made from a variety of materials, including solid wood, fiberglass, or hollow core wood. Interior doors can also feature raised panels, panes of glass, or slats that permit open ventilation.
